Combination-Search
The Combination-Search allows the formulation of very complex search criteria by combination of Selection-Search and Detail-Search.
A genealogist may be interested in a german ancestor, who emigrated to South-America or Africa, but he knows which countries he did not emigrate to. The following example is the transcription of the question:
"Which places ("Orte"), geographical regions ("Geographische Gebiete") or administrative districts ("Verwaltungsgebiete") in South America or Africa, with the exception of German East-Africa (Deutsch-Ostafrika), German South-West-Africa (Deutsch-Südwestafrika), and Cameroon (Kamerun) are mentioned in context with Germans?"
Selection-search
Kontinente (continents): select: Südamerika (South-America), and Afrika (Africa). (See "Kontinente (2)", encircled in red)
Regionen (regions): deselect: Deutsch-Ostafrika (German East-Africa), Deutsch-Südwestafrika (German South-West-Africa) and Kamerun (Cameroon). (See "Regionen (3)", encircled in red)
Typen (types): select: Orte (places), Geographische Gebiete (geographical regions), and Verwaltungsgebiete (administrative districts). (See "Typen (3)", encircled in red)
Detail-Search

The Combination-Search results in 83 entries, which now can be printed or analyzed in detail on-screen. (A more "anglo-centric" question could be: "Where in Great-Britain, Asia and Oceania, were british Governours stationed? ")
Hint: After you have spent some time to enter these search parameters, you can easily save them as a search profile (see "Speichern" (save), encircled in red). You can open up a saved search (see "Öffnen" (open), encircled in red), and execute it in the same way as before, or after you have done some modification (e.g. instead of "Orte", "Geographische Gebiete", and "Verwaltungsgebiete", now select all types), you can start this modified search.
